How We Work

Our Cabinet Refinishing Process

01

Kitchen Protection & Disassembly

Countertops, floors, appliances, and backsplashes are masked and covered before any work begins
Doors, drawer fronts, and hardware are removed and labeled so every piece returns to its exact position
Work areas are contained to keep dust out of the rest of your home
02

Cleaning, Degreasing & Surface Prep

Cabinet surfaces are degreased and cleaned to remove kitchen residue that keeps coatings from bonding
Existing finishes are scuff-sanded for proper adhesion
Dents, dings, and worn spots are filled and sanded smooth as needed
A bonding primer is applied so the finish coats grip and last

Heavily damaged doors, water-swollen panels, or repairs outside the original scope may require additional work. If anything is discovered during preparation, we will review it with the homeowner before moving forward.

03

Shop-Sprayed Doors, On-Site Boxes

Doors and drawer fronts are sprayed in our shop, in a controlled environment, for a smooth, factory-style finish
Cabinet boxes, frames, and end panels are finished on-site to the same standard
We use Sherwin-Williams Emerald Urethane Trim Enamel, a durable coating made specifically for cabinets and trim
Most surfaces receive two finish coats unless otherwise specified in the estimate
04

Reassembly & Final Inspection

Doors, drawers, and hardware are reinstalled and aligned
Hinges are adjusted so doors sit straight and close properly
All protection is removed and the kitchen is cleaned
A final walkthrough and quality inspection is completed with you before we call the job done

Cabinet Refinishing FAQ

How much does cabinet refinishing cost compared to replacement?
Refinishing existing cabinets typically runs a fraction of the cost of new cabinets, because you keep the boxes and layout you already have. Every kitchen is different, so we price from a walkthrough, not a guess.
Can you paint oak cabinets? Will the grain show through?
Yes, we refinish oak cabinets often. One honest note: oak has a deep, open grain, and paint alone does not erase it. Grain filling is available as an additional step and reduces the texture, but some grain character usually remains. We will show you what to expect before you commit.
How long does cabinet refinishing take?
Most kitchens take several days to about a week depending on size and scope. Because doors and drawer fronts are sprayed in our shop, your kitchen stays usable for much of the project.
Can I use my kitchen during the project?
Mostly, yes. Doors and drawer fronts cure in our shop while boxes are finished on-site in stages. Work areas are contained, and we clean up at the end of each day so your home stays livable.
What finish do you use and how durable is it?
We use Sherwin-Williams Emerald Urethane Trim Enamel, a hard, durable enamel made specifically for cabinets and trim. It is built for daily kitchen use, and every project is backed by our 1-year workmanship warranty.
How do estimates and pricing work?
It starts with a walkthrough. Matt meets with you, looks at your cabinets and the scope involved, and talks through what you want done. From there he puts together a written proposal and emails it to you, with the full scope of work and pricing laid out. No vague numbers, and no surprises once the work begins.
